Everyday's Hero

The title “hero” isn’t only given to soldiers, teachers, or scientists. Ordinary people can also be a hero. For me, hero is a title which is given to a person who is considered meritorious. Who is your everyday hero? My hero is Sumi, and she is my housemaid. I think Sumi has big contribution in helping my daily life, that’s why I consider her as my everyday hero.
My housemaid name is Sumi, she is 17 years old. She has been working in my home for 4 years. Everyday, she wakes up at dawn, washes the clothes, sweeps and mops the floor, does the dishes, and all the household things. I am very grateful of having her as my housemaid. I just can’t imagine how tiring my life will be if I have to wake up at dawn to do those things then go to college. I learn something from Sumi. She said no matter what I am doing, I have to enjoy and love it, so I can do the best and get the best result.
Sumi also teaches me to realize my dream. Sumi has a dream of making her parents and siblings happy; she also wants to buy them a land to farm the rice. She quitted school several years ago and decided to work. There is always something to be sacrificed to reach the dream. I have to be hard working and not giving up easily in reaching my dream as a successful person.
She may be just a housemaid, but I can learn things from her. First, I have to enjoy and love what I’m doing so I can do my best. The second is I have to realize my dream, not just dreaming of it. She also teaches me to start respecting people better. Don’t underestimate people with minor jobs like housemaid, cleaning service, driver, etc because we just don’t realize how big the effort they had in our everyday life.

This is a good quote I read yesterday
“You don’t have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things; to compete. You can be just an ordinary person, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals. The intense effort, the giving of everything you’ve got, is a very pleasant side effect” — Sir Edmond Hillary, adventurer
